Looking into financial aid options and came across the Federal Perkins Loan Program. I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the different loan types; what exactly should I know about this one? Any insights are super welcome!
Hello! It's perfectly understandable to feel overwhelmed by the variety of financial aid options out there. However, it is important to note that as of September 30, 2017, the Federal Perkins Loan Program has been discontinued, and no new Perkins loans have been issued since then. In case you're still generally curious, however, it was a need-based student loan program for undergraduates and graduate students with exceptional financial need.
While this avenue has unfortunately been closed to you, there are still plenty of other financial aid options out there, through both ongoing governmental programs and institutional aid received directly from the institution. I would recommend consulting with your guidance counselor, or even reaching out directly to the admissions offices at the schools you're considering, to see which possibilities might be the best ones for you.
Best of luck with mapping out your plan for affording college!
