Living on campus at the University of Vermont: What are my options?

I've been accepted to the University of Vermont and am trying to figure out the on-campus housing situation. Can anyone tell me what my options are for residence halls, and how they each differ? I'm hoping to find a good mix between social life and personal space. Would love to hear from anyone who has lived on campus about what they liked and maybe didn't like about their dorm experience!

Congratulations on your acceptance to the University of Vermont! The university provides several on-campus housing options for freshmen.

There are primarily two types of residence halls: traditional-style and suite-style. Traditional-style halls have shared bathrooms on each floor and tend to be more sociable as you're more likely to bump into other students. Many of the traditional-style halls are in the central campus.

Suite-style halls, on the other hand, consist of two or three rooms sharing a bathroom and a small living area. Suite-style halls often provide more privacy than traditional-style halls, and they're located across the campus.

There's also a variety of Learning Community (LC) housing options, where students with similar interests or studying similar subjects live together, and they often work together on related projects or activities.

The key to a positive dorm experience is communication and respect. You'll need to ensure you set boundaries for privacy and establish common understandings about guest rules, noise, cleaning, and more.

It's also worth mentioning that each dorm might have different amenities, so research specific dorms for unique features. Some have fitness rooms, meeting spaces, or study rooms.

Overall, there's a good balance to be found between social opportunities and personal space at UVM's on-campus housing, as long as you communicate your needs to your roommates and take advantage of the community living provides.
