Tell me about Mews Hall at Cornell!

I'm thinking of applying to Cornell and am curious about Mews Hall. I've read a bit about it, but I'd love to get some personal insights. What's living there like, especially in terms of the community and location? Any tips on trying to get a room there? It sounds like a cool place from what I've heard, but I want to know if it's as great as it seems. Thanks for any info you can provide!

I can shed some light on Mews Hall at Cornell!

Mews Hall is one of the newer residence halls on campus, having been built around 2001 which makes it pretty modern in terms of facilities. It houses primarily freshmen and is part of the North Campus residential community, which is a great place for incoming students to live since all first-year students at Cornell live on the North Campus. This helps form a tight-knit community, and you'll get to meet people from all sorts of backgrounds and interests.

Regarding location, it's very conveniently situated. You'll be close to the core campus and just a short walk to places like Appel Commons, where you can find dining facilities, meeting rooms, and a fitness center. Also, you're not far away from other parts of campus like the athletic complex or the botanical gardens, which is ideal if you want to have these resources within easy reach.

Living there can be an enriching experience too. Mews Hall has in-house academic programs and workshops that are tailored for first-year students which can be a great aid to navigate your first year at college. Plus, the Residence Hall Directors and Resident Advisers are there to support students and foster a cozy living-learning community.

In terms of securing a room there, it's mostly a lottery system for housing assignments for incoming students - but rest assured that all first-year housing at Cornell is designed to support incoming students in their transition to college life. You can indicate your preference for Mews in the housing survey you'll receive after admitting to Cornell, but ultimately, the assignment is somewhat random.

Overall, Mews Hall is indeed as great as it sounds with its modish facilities, advantageous location, and supportive environment. However, every building on campus has its unique character and contributes to the diverse student experience. So, no matter where you end up, rest assured that Cornell provides its students with resources and support to make their first year a successful one!
