What is campus life like at the Fashion Institute of Technology?

I've been really interested in attending the Fashion Institute of Technology after high school because I'm passionate about fashion and design. However, while I've looked into their programs, I'm curious about what campus life is like at FIT.

What is the social scene like? Are there clubs or groups that are a big part of the experience? Also, I’d love to know more about the dorms and housing situation. Really just wanting to see if it seems like a good fit (pun intended) for me. Anyone got any insights or personal experiences they’d like to share?

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) has a lively and vibrant student life, complete with an array of student organizations and activities that allow students to get involved and build connections. With over 60 student clubs ranging from fashion-related groups like the Wardrobe Styling and Set Design Club and Runway27 to academic societies, there's bound to be something that aligns with your interests.

One of the stand-out elements of FIT, given its location in New York City, is its proximity to museums, art galleries, and a vast array of retail stores and designer boutiques which really complements the educational experience. With the city always at your doorstep, there is an endless range of cultural and social experiences to enjoy alongside your peers.

As for housing, FIT offers housing to its students through a variety of residence halls, and these dorms offer differing amenities depending on the building. The options range from traditional dormitory-style rooms to apartment-style living, and each residence hall is equipped with study rooms, lounges, and laundry facilities.

However, it's worth noting that the availability of on-campus housing can be limited, particularly for upperclassmen. A considerable number of students at FIT opt to live off-campus, often in nearby neighborhoods of Manhattan or even in Brooklyn, owing to the school’s very urban location and limited campus space.

Lastly, FIT's wellness center often organizes activities to promote mental health and stress relief, such as mindfulness sessions and therapy dog visits, which you might find interesting and beneficial, especially considering the hugely fast-paced environment of FIT.

While every student's experiences differ, my general impression is that FIT offers a diverse, active, and engaging experience that extends beyond solely focusing on the fashion industry. I would highly recommend visiting the campus if you have the chance, as it can provide a more tangible sense of whether the environment feels right for you.
