Education is a calling, and I'm on the hunt for HBCUs that are especially strong in their Education programs. Teachers or current students in Education at HBCUs, can you shed some light for a junior trying to find their path?
How exciting to hear about your interest in pursuing a career in Education through an HBCU! Students in the Education program at Spelman College often report having transformative experiences. Spelman, known for its strong liberal arts education, also has a fantastic teacher preparation program. Their emphasis on social justice and equity in education really prepares students to be thoughtful and impactful educators.
Another HBCU that comes to mind is Howard University. Howard has a well-respected School of Education and offers numerous research opportunities and community engagement programs which my daughter considered before making her final decision. Lastly, Hampton University also has a good track record for its rigorous curriculum and hands-on teaching practicums.
It's great that you're getting an early start on this; visiting campuses, if possible, and reaching out to admissions or department heads for detailed program info would be a proactive next step. Best of luck in finding the HBCU that fits you best!
