Test-Optional Admissions Strategy

Okay, so I’m not the best standardised test taker and with many schools going test-optional, I’m thinking about not submitting my scores. But does applying test-optional hurt you in the admissions process, especially for more selective schools?

It's understandable that you're considering a test-optional strategy, especially if you feel that your scores don't accurately represent your abilities. While applying test-optional won't necessarily hurt your chances at selective schools, it's worth remembering that admissions officers will put more emphasis on other aspects of your application, such as your GPA, course rigor, and extracurricular activities.

If you believe that the rest of your application is strong and can compensate for the lack of test scores, then applying test-optional could be a suitable strategy for you. However, if you think there's a chance that your scores could actually boost your application, it might be worth submitting them after all. Admissions officers understand that standardized tests aren't the only measure of a student's potential, so weigh your options and make the decision that best represents your abilities and showcases your strengths.
