Does SAT superscoring really work in my favor?

Hi guys! I heard about SAT superscoring but I'm slightly stumped about how it actually helps. Does every college do this? How should I plan my test-taking strategy around it?

Hi there! SAT superscoring can certainly work in your favor. Superscoring is when colleges take the highest section scores from multiple test dates and combine them to form a new, often higher, composite score. Not every college superscores, but many do, especially competitive institutions. This means that if you do better on Math in one sitting and better on EBRW in another, the school will consider your highest score in each section, regardless of the test date.

Regarding your test-taking strategy, if you're aiming for a school that superscores, you might focus on studying intensively for one section at a time and plan multiple test dates. This approach could reduce the pressure of excelling in both sections simultaneously. Additionally, always check the testing policies of the schools you're interested in, as some might require all test scores. In those cases, understand that even with superscoring, consistent performance across all sections is advantageous. Lastly, remember to give yourself ample time to study between sittings to maximize your chances of improving your scores. Good luck!
