What's it like in Los Angeles for HBCU students?

Thinking about heading to an HBCU and LA has been calling my name. Is there a strong HBCU presence there? What should an HBCU student expect in terms of opportunities and community vibes?

Hey there! While Los Angeles is a vibrant and diverse city with a lot to offer, it's important to know that there aren't any HBCUs located directly within the city. The closest HBCU is Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, which is a historically black graduate institution in the LA area that focuses primarily on health sciences. As for undergraduate HBCUs, the nearest options would be in the surrounding states or more towards the South and East Coast.

That being said, LA is still home to a rich and thriving African American community and offers a wide range of cultural and networking events. You'll find various organizations and special events focused on supporting African American students and professionals. Additionally, you can network with HBCU alumni groups that have chapters in the LA area.

So while LA might not have a direct HBCU presence, there is still a supportive community and abundant opportunities to explore!
