What's the highest paid job in the US military?

I'm curious about which job in the US military pays the most. Considering military as a career path after high school and trying to get an idea of what the pay scale is like. Anyone know?

The pay scale in the U.S military is stratified primarily by rank and years of service, not by job specialty. Service members receive a base pay that increases as they advance in rank and years of service. Additionally, they may receive allowances and benefits that can significantly boost their total compensation. A few key positions, such as General or Admiral (the highest military ranks), are associated with high pay because of the high rank.

However, some specialties can earn additional forms of pay. For example, officers in roles such as physicians, dentists, nurses, and lawyers (Judge Advocate Generals, or JAGs) often have higher salaries due to additional professional pay. Similarly, special operations forces (like Navy SEALs or Army Green Berets) receive special duty pay because of the high-risk nature of their jobs.

But keep in mind, military service isn't purely about the pay – factors such as passion for the field, commitment to service, and potential for professional development should also influence your decision. If you're curious about a specific military job's pay scale, I'd suggest checking out the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) for a DEP (Department of Defense military pay) table.
