Path to becoming a doctor after high school?

Hey, I'm really interested in becoming a doctor, and I want to know the optimal path to pursue after graduating from high school. What should I major in during undergrad, and are there any programs or steps I should consider to increase my chances of getting into med school?

Hello! To become a doctor, you'll need to attend medical school after graduating from undergrad. As for what you should major in, many students choose majors like Biology, Chemistry, or another science-related field because they closely align with the prerequisites needed for medical school. That being said, you can major in any subject as long as you complete the prerequisite courses.

In terms of increasing your chances for med school, try to maintain a strong GPA, participate in extracurriculars related to your passions and interests, and gain clinical experience through volunteering or internships at hospitals/clinics. Research experience and strong letters of recommendation from science professors are also highly valued by medical schools. Lastly, you'll need to take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) during undergrad, so be sure to prepare for it.

As for programs, consider applying to combined MD/BA or MD/BS programs, which offer conditional acceptance into medical school at the time of undergrad admission. Good luck!
