Naval Academy Summer Camp for High School Students?

I'm interested in attending the Naval Academy summer camp for high schoolers. Has anyone been to it before? What can I expect in terms of activities and the daily schedule? How do I apply, and are there any tips for making the most of it?

The Naval Academy summer camp you're referring to is known as the Summer Seminar program. The Naval Academy Summer Seminar aims to provide a taste of the Naval Academy experience, from academic classes to physical training.

Each day typically starts very early with physical training exercises, followed by breakfast at the mess hall. After breakfast, you'll go to sessions where you will explore a variety of academic subjects and have a chance to ask questions about both the academic and naval lifestyle. In the afternoon, you will usually participate in intramural sports. The evenings often include leadership seminars and a Q&A session with current Midshipmen.

As for the application process, you'll need to apply online. The application usually opens in January and requires you to fill out a short questionnaire, provide your PSAT scores, and a high school transcript up to 11th grade. Being as factual and honest as possible with your responses is key.

To make the most of this program, challenge yourself academically and physically, ask lots of questions, make connections with the other students, and honestly assess if this is the right fit for you. Keep in mind that the Naval Academy is highly rigorous academically, physically, and morally, and this program should give you a sense of whether you're prepared for that commitment.

It's also a beneficial extracurricular activity to include in your college applications since it demonstrates interest in the Naval Academy and shows off your commitment to leadership, service, and physical fitness. Enjoy your experience and make the most of this great opportunity!
