Concerns about campus safety—what are considered the most dangerous HBCU colleges?

Safety's a big deal for me, and I'm trying to do my homework about campuses. Does anyone have data or personal experience they can share about the safety of HBCU campuses?

While I can understand why safety is a top priority for you, it's important to make sure you don't generalize about entire categories of schools. Campus safety can differ significantly across schools, even among HBCUs. When evaluating colleges, it's a good idea to look at campus-specific crime statistics, which can be found on the colleges' websites or through resources like the U.S. Department of Education's Campus Safety and Security Data Analysis Cutting Tool. Additionally, various websites offer rankings of schools based on safety, but keep in mind, rankings will differ depending on the methodology used and factors considered.

As you're doing your research, also take note of the colleges' safety policies and initiatives, like 24-hour security, campus police presence, shuttle services, and emergency call boxes. Some campuses have safety apps as well for real-time notifications and assistance.

I encourage you to visit campuses, if possible, or talk to current students at the schools you're considering. They will be able to give you a better idea of the overall atmosphere and the sense of security they feel on campus. Keep in mind that everyone's perception of safety differs, so it's important to gather information from multiple sources to form a well-rounded view on the safety of each HBCU campus.

Good luck and stay safe!
