What are College Track Times for Scholarships?

I'm a high school track athlete and curious about the track times needed to qualify for scholarships. What times do D1 or other competitive programs usually look for?

While I can't provide exact times for all events in all divisions, I can give you some umbrella estimates that NCAA Division I schools typically look for when extending scholarships.

It varies significantly between events and between men's and women's divisions. Here are a few examples:

For Men:

- 100m: under 10.50s

- 200m: under 21.50s

- 400m: under 47.50s

- 800m: under 1:52

- 1600m: under 4:10

For Women:

- 100m: under 12s

- 200m: under 24s

- 400m: under 55s

- 800m: under 2:10

- 1600m: under 4:50

Keep in mind these are very rough estimates. Each school and each coach may have different criteria. Also bear in mind, track scholarships are typically not full-rides. Most scholarships are usually divided among several athletes on a team.

Excelling academically is also of utmost importance for scholarships - good grades can qualify you for more academic awards, which, combined with athletic scholarships, can considerably offset your college costs.

Finally, times are just one part of the equation. Coaches are frequently looking at potential – your dedication, discipline, and ability to work within a team. Demonstrating these qualities can often be as important as your performances. Good luck on your journey!
