What are the best schools for actuarial science majors?

I have a strong interest in math and statistics and am thinking about pursuing a major in actuarial science. Does anyone know which colleges or universities are highly regarded for actuarial science programs?

Choosing a college for your major is an important decision as you want to ensure you're receiving a good education that's well-regarded in your field.

There are a few colleges and universities that have renowned programs in actuarial science. The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School is recognized for its stellar program. It allows you the opportunity to combine business and math - two essential elements in actuarial science.

Further, the University of Wisconsin-Madison also has a noteworthy actuarial science program. It is part of their School of Business, which frequently ranks highly nationally and they have strong links with the business community.

Additionally, the University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business also has an excellent actuarial science program. They have a robust curriculum and great support for internships which can offer you real-world experience.

Boston University's program in actuarial science is also one to consider. Their program not only gives a solid base in the subject but also has concentrations in areas such as risk management which can give you a great start for the job market.

Finally, Carnegie Mellon University offers an excellent program through their Department of Statistics and Data Sciences.

These are simply some examples and there are many other reputable programs too. The best fit will depend on what you're looking for in terms of class size, location, campus culture, cost, and financial aid availability. Just remember, it can be beneficial to choose a program that is recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence. This recognition denotes a high-quality actuarial program and those schools tend to have strong connections to the field, which can be beneficial when seeking internships and jobs after graduation.
