Colleges not accepting ASL as a foreign language?

Hey y'all, I'm taking ASL in high school right now, but I'm worried that some colleges might not accept it as a foreign language. Does anyone have any information on which colleges do not accept ASL? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! While I don't have a comprehensive list of colleges that don't accept ASL as a foreign language, I can tell you that ASL is increasingly being recognized as a legitimate foreign language by many colleges and universities. It's important to research the specific foreign language requirements for each school you're interested in applying to, as the acceptance of ASL can vary.

To figure out a specific college's policy on ASL, you can visit their admissions webpage or contact their admissions office. Another helpful resource is the college catalog or course listings, which will show if they offer ASL classes, but that alone may not answer your question.

Keep in mind that even if a college doesn't formally accept ASL as a foreign language for their requirements, your experience with ASL may still serve as an asset on your application. It demonstrates your dedication to language learning and unique skills that could contribute to the college's community.

Finally, some colleges may accept ASL for their language admissions requirement but may not offer ASL courses on their campus. So, if you plan on continuing your studies in ASL, you'll want to make sure that the college you choose offers courses in the subject, or has a partnership with a nearby institution where you can take ASL courses.

Unfortunately, I can't provide a full list of colleges that don't accept ASL, but I encourage you to do some research on the schools you're interested in to see if they do. And remember to highlight the unique experiences you've gained through ASL in your application, regardless of a particular school's policy. Good luck with your application!
