Best State Universities in USA for Engineering?

I'm really interested in studying engineering but keeping costs low is important for my family. What are some of the best state universities in the USA for engineering? Any specific programs or colleges that stand out?

There are several highly-ranked public universities in the United States well-regarded for their engineering programs. Here are a few you may want to look into:

1. University of California--Berkeley: UC Berkeley's College of Engineering is highly respected. Their Electrical and Computer Engineering as well as Civil and Environmental Engineering departments consistently rank among the top in the country.

2. University of Michigan--Ann Arbor: The College of Engineering at UM-Ann Arbor offers several highly-ranked engineering disciplines. For example, their Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering programs are especially acknowledged.

3. University of Illinois--Urbana Champaign: The Grainger College of Engineering at UIUC is notable for almost all of its programs but the university is especially known for its Computer Science and Computer Engineering departments.

4. University of Texas--Austin: The Cockrell School of Engineering has plenty of excellent programs. The Petroleum Engineering program, in particular, is often recognized as one of the best in the country.

5. Purdue University--West Lafayette: Purdue's College of Engineering is well respected broadly, with Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering as well as Chemical Engineering being particularly outstanding.

6. Georgia Institute of Technology: While not a traditional state school, GA Tech, a public university, is renowned for all of their engineering programs.

When considering these programs, pay attention to the out-of-state tuition rates, as they are often considerably higher than in-state rates. However, many of these schools offer financial aid and scholarships to out-of-state students. You can use each school's net price calculator to get a good estimate of what you might pay, factoring in potential financial aid. Remember, you can also consider your in-state public universities to keep costs as low as possible while still receiving a great education. Many in-state programs have excellent engineering departments.
