Allowed calculators for the ACT?

I'm prepping for the ACT and I'm not sure which calculator to use. What types of calculators are allowed during the test?

During the ACT, you are allowed to use a calculator for the Math section of the test. However, not all calculators are allowed. The ACT permits the use of:

1. Four-function calculators.

2. Scientific calculators.

3. Most graphing calculators.

Popular calculators that are allowed by the ACT include the TI-83 and TI-84 series, Casio fx-7400 and fx-9750 series, and HP-39 and HP-40 series. It's essential to make sure your calculator is approved; otherwise, it won't be allowed in the testing room.

Calculators NOT allowed are:

1. Calculators with built-in computer algebra systems (CAS).

2. Calculators capable of connecting to the internet or other devices through Wi-Fi or any other means.

3. Calculators with QWERTY (typewriter-like) keyboards.

4. Calculators with paper tape capabilities.

5. Calculators that make noise or have voice.

Some examples of prohibited calculators include TI-89 and TI-92 series, TI-Nspire CX CAS, HP Prime, and Casio ClassPad series.

Before the test day, make sure to familiarize yourself with the calculator you'll use and practice using it during your preparation. This will help you feel comfortable and efficient in using the calculator during the actual test.

For more detailed on allowed and prohibited calculators, as well as any updates to the calculator policy, you can refer to the ACT Calculator Policy on the official ACT website. This current policy (as of Sept. 2023) can be seen here: https://www.act.org/content/dam/act/unsecured/documents/ACT-calculator-policy.pdf
