What kinds of jobs can you get right out of high school?

I'm graduating soon and considering entering the workforce right away. What types of jobs are available for someone with just a high school diploma? Are there any fields that tend to hire high school grads more than others?

There are indeed a variety of fields that tend to hire high school graduates. Retail and food service are two sectors that commonly employ high school graduates for positions like sales associate, cashier, or barista. If you're interested in hands-on work, you might consider becoming a laborer in construction or manufacturing, where you can start off as a helper and learn skills on the job.

Another industry that hires high school graduates is the transportation sector. With the right training, which is often provided on the job, you can become a commercial driver for a company or even a local delivery service. Please note, however, that drivers usually need to be over 18.

Lastly, there are opportunities in the healthcare field for high school graduates. Careers such as certified nursing assistant, medical assistant, or home health aide don't require a college degree, although they do require specific training and certification.

Where you look for a job can be influenced by your interests and skills. Additionally, keep in mind that some employers provide opportunities for advancement and even tuition reimbursement programs if you decide down the line you'd like to further your education.
