Marine Biology Schools in New England?

I'm fascinated by marine biology and want to study it in college. Which colleges in New England have the best marine biology programs? Are there any hands-on research opportunities or notable faculty that I should know about?

New England, with its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, has several colleges and universities with well-regarded marine biology programs.

1. University of Maine: The School of Marine Sciences at the University of Maine is a standout. They offer a bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences with a wide range of courses spanning oceanography, marine biology, marine chemistry, and marine geology. The Darling Marine Center, right on the coast, provides an upper-level, full-semester, hands-on marine study and research experience.

2. University of New England: UNE offers a Marine Sciences major and minor as well as a Marine Affairs minor. The campus’s location enables hands-on, innovative research experience. There's also the Marine Animal Rehabilitation and Conservation (MARC) program where students can work with marine animals.

3. University of Rhode Island: URI has a dedicated College of Environment and Life Sciences and offers a Marine Biology major. They also have state-of-the-art research facilities thanks to the Graduate School of Oceanography.

4. University of Connecticut: UConn has a Marine Sciences program through which you can pursue an undergraduate major or minor. They offer many research opportunities, including study at their coastal Avery Point campus.

5. Boston University: BU offers a Marine Science major through their Department of Earth and Environment. Their curriculum incorporates the basics of chemistry, biology, and physics.

6. Northeastern University: Offers a BS in Marine Biology through the College of Science. Notable for its co-op program, Northeastern provides students a chance to gain meaningful work experience while earning course credit.

Each of these programs has a unique edge, so it would be worthwhile to research each program thoroughly and consider your own academic interests and career goals.
