What are the best colleges for a forensic science degree?

I'm really interested in pursuing a degree in forensic science after high school. Could anyone suggest some of the best colleges known for their forensic science programs?

Absolutely! There is a variety of schools across the country that have stellar forensic science degree programs.

One of the first that comes to mind is Pennsylvania State University and its Eberly College of Science. They offer both a Bachelor's in Forensic Science degree and a Master's in Forensic Science degree. What sets Penn State apart is its strong hands-on emphasis. Its program includes a mandatory field experience where students work in forensic labs, law enforcement agencies, coroner's offices, and more. The university also has a crime lab and a body farm for students to get authentic experience.

Next, the University of Central Florida has an impressive forensics program. Known for being highly interdisciplinary, the program includes courses in biological, physical, and analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and genetics, with optional courses in anthropology and criminal justice.

The University of New Haven also has an excellent reputation in this field. They off‍‍er a comprehensive Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science degree program that intertwines crime scene investigation techniques with laboratory skills. Interestingly, the university has the Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science, an on-campus facility dedicated to providing professional training and conducting innovative research.

Virginia Commonwealth University's Department of Forensic Science is another strong contender. They have a full range of programs from a Bachelor of Science and a Master's in Forensic Science. The department has partnerships with over 30 agencies for student internships, including the FBI.

Lastly, George Washington University has a remarkable Forensic Sciences Department, although it is primarily at the graduate level. However, undergrads can still partake in the joint BS/MFS. Their approach is unique in that their forensic science programs are largely based in chemistry, giving students a strong foundation in analytical techniques.

Always remember to conduct further research based on your personal educational needs and career goals. Speak to the universities' admissions counselors, attend free webinars on their programs, and connect with students or alumni to gain further insights.
