Preparing for the AP European Exam

Hello everyone, I'm taking AP European History this year 🙌. I was wondering if you could suggest some helpful resources or tips to score well on the exam? Also, what would you recommend as a pacing strategy while taking the test? Thanks!

Hello! It's great to see that you're preparing for the AP European History exam. To perform well on the exam, consider the following resources and tips:

1. AP Crash Course books and Princeton Review books can be helpful for reviewing essential content and practicing multiple-choice questions.

2. Utilize free resources like Khan Academy and CollegeBoard's AP Classroom for exam preparation, practice questions, and quizzes.

3. Join online forums, such as the Advanced Placement subreddit (r/APStudents), where you can discuss topics or ask questions related to AP European History.

4. Form a study group with classmates to review content, discuss concepts, and quiz each other.

As for a pacing strategy during the test, keep these tips in mind:

1. For multiple-choice questions, allocate around one minute per question. Familiarize yourself with the format and types of questions (e.g., source-based) beforehand, so you know what to expect.

2. For the short-answer questions, you'll have 50 minutes for four questions. Try to complete each question within 10-12 minutes, allowing time for reviewing your answers.

3. For the document-based question (DBQ), you'll have 60 minutes, including a suggested 15-minute reading period. Use the reading period to analyze the documents, formulate a thesis statement, and outline your essay. Spend the remaining 45 minutes writing a well-organized and analytical essay.

4. For the long essay question (LEQ), you will have 40 minutes to analyze and respond. Spend around 10 minutes outlining the essay, considering the key points you want to make, and then use the remaining 30 minutes to write a cohesive and well-supported essay.

Don't forget to practice time management in the lead-up to the exam by taking timed practice tests and reviewing under a timed environment. Remember to be thorough in your preparations, and good luck on your AP European History exam!
