Need physics for med school?

Hey everyone! I'm considering going into the medical field, and I'm wondering if taking physics in high school is necessary for med school applications? How important is it to take physics in high school compared to college-level courses?

Hello! While taking physics in high school is not explicitly required for medical school admissions, it could be beneficial for a few reasons. Firstly, having a strong foundation in physics will better prepare you for the college-level courses you'll need to complete as part of your pre-med requirements. Most medical schools generally require applicants to have completed introductory physics courses at the college level, regardless of whether you took physics in high school or not.

By taking physics in high school, you can develop a basic understanding of the subject and its principles, which may make the college-level coursework more manageable. Additionally, the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) does include physics-based questions, so having prior knowledge and experience with the subject can be advantageous.

That being said, if you're unable to fit physics into your high school schedule, you can still succeed in college physics courses and as a pre-med student. Just be prepared to dedicate time and effort to learning the material during college, as it will be important for your medical school application and the MCAT. Ultimately, it's more important to excel in your college physics courses than to have taken the subject in high school. Good luck!
