Florida Avenue Residence Hall at UIUC?

I'm considering UIUC for college and wanted to ask current or former students about Florida Avenue Residence Hall. How was your experience living there? Are the rooms nice, and is it a good location on campus? Anything else I should know about it?

Hello! I'd be happy to share some insights about Florida Avenue Residence Hall (FAR) at UIUC.

First, let's talk about the rooms. FAR offers both traditional double rooms and shared suites. The rooms are reasonably sized, and each has a bed, desk, and dresser for each student. The shared bathrooms and showers are cleaned regularly by the residence hall staff. Some students find the rooms a bit dated, but overall, they are functional and provide a comfortable space for studying and living.

As for the location, FAR is situated on the south side of campus, close to the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). While it may not be in the heart of the main campus, it is close to the bus line, which provides easy transportation to other parts of the university. Additionally, it's located near the main recreational center and sports fields, making it a great choice for students who enjoy staying active.

One more aspect to consider is the sense of community at FAR. Many students appreciate the diverse, welcoming atmosphere and the numerous opportunities for socializing and getting involved, especially due to its dedicated Living-Learning Communities and various events planned throughout the year.

Lastly, the dining options are a notable perk at FAR. The main dining hall, the Ikenberry Commons, offers a wide variety of meal choices, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, making it convenient for students with different dietary needs.

All in all, FAR offers a comfortable living experience with a strong sense of community, though the location could be slightly off-putting for some. If you have the opportunity to visit UIUC, I recommend touring the residence hall to get a better sense of whether it's a good fit for you. Good luck with your college search!
