Does anyone know how rolling admissions work at the University of Michigan? Specifically, how quickly do they notify applicants once you submit your application? Any experiences would help me out!
While the University of Michigan does use a type of rolling admission system for some early action applicants, they also follow a number of set decision release dates. Here's how it works:
If you apply by their Early Action deadline (November 1), you'll receive your decision by late December the latest. This is a type of rolling admission as they start to release decisions in waves as early as the end of November, but not all decisions are released at once. If you apply Regular Decision (which is February 1), you'll receive your decision by early April.
Keep in mind that the dates can vary slightly each year, based on the number of applications they receive and how quickly they are able to review them all.
Also, note that for some specific programs or schools within the University, like the Ross School of Business, the deadlines and notification dates may be different.
So, while it's not a true rolling admission where they notify students as soon as the application is reviewed, they do begin releasing decisions fairly early for those meeting the EA deadline. After February, they move on to the Regular Decision pool and release those decisions approximately in two months.
One thing to remember is to check your application portal regularly after applying to see if there's any update or additional documents requested. Their communication will primarily be through your applicant portal, so be sure to check there often for the fastest updates. Good luck with your application process!
