How does rolling admissions work at Texas State University?

I'm considering applying to Texas State University and I've heard they have rolling admissions. Can anyone explain how their rolling admissions process works and if applying earlier could improve my chances?

Sure, I'd be happy to explain. So, unlike regular decision and early action (or early decision), which have a set application deadline, with rolling admissions, colleges consider applications as they come in and continue to do so until they have filled all the spots in their freshman class. Note that there is still a final application deadline, but it usually tends to be much later than with the other admission types just mentioned.

Texas State University specifically uses this type of admissions. After you submit your application, if they receive all your supporting documents (high school transcript, test scores if you choose to submit them, etc.) within two weeks of your application, it generally takes about 3-4 weeks for them to review your application and notify you of their decision.

As for whether applying earlier can improve your chances, the answer is generally yes. Since colleges with rolling admissions begin to review applications as soon as they start coming in, and continue until all spots are filled, applying earlier increases your chances because there are more spots available early in the process. However, be cautious to not rush your application. While being early can be advantageous, it's most important that your application is comprehensive and well-thought-out.

Finally, while Texas State has rolling admissions, they also have a priority deadline of March 1st. Applicants who apply before this date get first consideration for assured scholarships, the Honors College, and housing preferences. After March 1st, Texas State reviews applications on a space-available basis. So it's a good idea to apply prior to this date if you can. Hope this clears things up for you!
