Transferring college credits from AP tests

I've taken several AP tests and earned college credits. I'm confused about how to get these credits transferred to my future college. What's the typical procedure, and is it different for every college?

Each college and university sets its own policy for accepting AP scores for credit and placement, so the process can vary from school to school. However, there are some general steps you'll need to follow:

1. Check Your Target College’s AP Policy: You'll want to first look at the AP credit policy of the school you'll be attending. Most universities have a webpage dedicated to their AP, IB, and CLEP credit acceptance rules. These pages detail which scores are required to earn credit for specific courses, and how many credits each AP test can provide.

2. Send Your Scores to Your College: When you take an AP exam, you have the option to select one college or university to send your scores to, free of charge. If you didn't select a college when taking the test, you can request an AP score report to be sent to your college. There’s a fee for additional score sends.

3. Registrar's Office: Once your future college receives your scores, the registrar's office generally handles credit assignment. They would review your scores and assign credit accordingly based on their AP Credit policy.

Keep in mind, some colleges will use AP scores for placement into higher-level courses, even if they don’t award college credit. If you have questions about the process, it's a good idea to contact your college's admissions office or your academic advisor for personalised help. They can guide you through their college's specific process and tips for maximizing your credits.
