Optional Essay Submission?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if I should submit an essay if it's just optional on my college application. Would it help me or hurt me if I don't include it?

Hello! When an essay is listed as optional on a college application, it's generally a good idea to submit one if you can. Writing an optional essay can provide additional information about yourself that may not have been mentioned in your application. It can help to showcase your writing skills, individuality, and can be an opportunity for you to further demonstrate your interest in the school.

However, if you choose to submit an optional essay, make sure it adds value to your overall application. Don't write an essay just for the sake of submitting one. Spend time crafting a thoughtful and well-written piece that is specific to the college and highlights an aspect of your personality, experiences, or qualifications not covered elsewhere in your application.

If you feel that your application is strong without the optional essay and you don't have a unique or compelling story to share, then it's okay not to submit one. However, remember that many applicants will take advantage of this opportunity, so you might be at a slight disadvantage in comparison. Ultimately, the decision comes down to your own evaluation of your application's strength and what additional information you believe you can contribute.

Good luck with your applications!
