Art Internships for High School Students

I'm looking for some cool art internships for high school students in my area, but I'm not having much luck so far. Has anyone been through this and found a good internship? How did you find it, and do you have any tips for getting started?

It's excellent that you're seeking art internships while still in high school! While formal internships might be less common, art-related opportunities are definitely available. Here are some ideas to keep in mind and avenues to explore:

1. Local galleries and museums – Reach out to local art galleries and museums to see if they have any openings for high school students or volunteers. They may not have formal internship programs, but they might be open to creating a position, especially if you express interest in helping out with educational outreach or event planning.

2. Local art studios – Check with nearby art studios if they're open to having an intern or if they need an assistant. You can offer your skills to artists as a studio assistant, which will help you gain hands-on experience in the art world.

3. Art camps and community centers – Many summer art camps and community centers are always looking for volunteers or assistants to help with their art classes. This will allow you to gain valuable experience working with children while being in an art-focused environment.

4. School connections – Speak with your school's art teachers or guidance counselor to see if they have any local connections or suggestions for internships. They may know of resources or alumni who are currently working in the art field and may be able to help you find opportunities.

5. Networking – Use social media to search for local artists or arts organizations and connect with them. After explaining your background and goals, ask if they have any suggestions for internships or opportunities.

6. Create your own internship – If you can't find the perfect internship, consider creating your own opportunity. You can work on your art projects and organize your own gallery showing, create a community mural project, or start an after-school art program at a local elementary school.
