SAT Requirement in High School

I was just wondering, is taking the SAT a mandatory requirement in most high schools? Or does it vary from school to school and district to district?

The SAT is not a mandatory requirement for most high schools. However, some schools and districts may strongly encourage or require their students to take the SAT or another college admissions exam like the ACT. It varies from school to school and district to district.

In some states, the SAT or ACT is administered as part of their statewide assessment programs, which means all students in those states will take one of these exams at some point during high school. Additionally, some schools may have agreements with testing organizations to provide the SAT or ACT for free to their students during the regular school day, to encourage college readiness and provide greater access to these exams.

That being said, while your high school might not require it, many colleges and universities do require standardized test scores as part of their admissions process. That being said, since the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant number of institutions have shifted to test-optional policies, meaning you can choose whether or not to submit your SAT or ACT scores. It's essential to check the standardized test requirements of the specific colleges you plan to apply to to determine if it's necessary for you to take the SAT or ACT.
