Chapel Hill vs NC State: Which is better for engineering?

I'm trying to decide between UNC Chapel Hill and NC State for engineering. I've heard that NC State has a strong engineering program, but I also like the overall feel of Chapel Hill. Thoughts on their engineering programs and which one I should choose?

Both UNC Chapel Hill and NC State are excellent schools, but when it comes to engineering, NC State is generally considered the stronger option.

NC State's College of Engineering is well-known for its comprehensive engineering programs and strong resources, including research opportunities, state-of-the-art facilities, and strong connections with industry partners. It consistently ranks as one of the top engineering schools in the country and offers a wide variety of engineering majors, from civil and electrical to nuclear and aerospace engineering.

While UNC Chapel Hill is a prestigious university with outstanding programs, especially in areas like liberal arts, business, and medicine, its engineering offerings are more limited. Chapel Hill only offers a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and Engineering Applied Sciences, which have broader focuses than specialized programs available at NC State.

That being said, if you are interested in an engineering program with strong connections to other disciplines (like chemistry or environmental sciences) or if you plan on double majoring, Chapel Hill might still be a good fit.

As you mentioned that you like the overall feel of Chapel Hill, it's essential to consider campus life, location, and culture as well. Both schools have different environments, with UNC Chapel Hill tending to lean more towards a traditional liberal arts atmosphere and NC State being more focused on science, technology, and engineering. Visiting each campus, if possible, and speaking with current students could be really helpful in feeling which is the better fit for you personally.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to your specific priorities and goals with the engineering program, as well as the overall college experience. If you prioritize a more specialized, comprehensive engineering education, NC State might be the better choice. However, if the broader academic and campus experience is more important to you, Chapel Hill might be the way to go.
