WashU vs UWashington: Which should I pick?

Hey guys, I'm having a tough time deciding between WashU and University of Washington. I'm planning on majoring in Chemistry, but I also want a solid social life and engaging campus environment. Can you share any experiences or pros or cons of each university to help me decide?

Congratulations on your acceptances! Both WashU and University of Washington are excellent schools, and majoring in Chemistry at either institution will provide you with a strong education. That said, there are some notable differences between the two which might help you decide.

WashU (Washington University in St. Louis):

Pros:

1. Highly ranked Chemistry program with research opportunities and smaller class sizes, which could lead to better relationships with professors.

2. Campus life is known for being inclusive and engaging, with numerous student events, clubs and organizations, and a diverse student body.

3. A well-rounded liberal arts education with the opportunity to explore various subjects outside of your major.

4. Typically offers more generous financial aid packages.

Cons:

1. Located in St. Louis, Missouri, which may have less internship or job opportunities specifically related to Chemistry compared to Seattle.

2. Smaller campus and student body size compared to University of Washington, which may feel limiting to some.

University of Washington (UW):

Pros:

1. Strong Chemistry program with research opportunities and connections to local industries in Seattle.

2. A larger campus and student body size, providing a wider variety of extracurricular activities and social events to participate in.

3. Located in Seattle, which offers a broad range of internship opportunities and post-graduation job prospects in the science industry.

4. UW is known for having an enthusiastic and engaged student body, ensuring an active social life.

Cons:

1. Larger class sizes, especially in introductory courses, may make it more difficult to establish relationships with professors or receive one-on-one attention.

2. Financial aid may not be as generous as at WashU, depending on your financial situation and scholarships.

Ultimately, your choice will come down to what you prioritize in your college experience. If you prefer a smaller, more intimate environment with strong financial support, WashU might be a better choice. Alternatively, if you're drawn to a large, bustling campus with an urban setting and strong industry connections, UW might be a better fit for you. If possible, try visiting both campuses and speaking with current students to get a feel for the environment before making your decision. Good luck!
