Hello! It's great that you're exploring private high school options in the East Bay as you prepare for a possible move. Here are a few well-regarded private high schools within a reasonable commute from the Oakland/Berkeley area:

1) The College Preparatory School (Oakland): Known for its strong academics and faculty, this coeducational school has a rigorous curriculum and small class sizes, allowing students to have meaningful interactions with teachers and peers.

2) Bentley School (Oakland and Lafayette): With two campuses—one for lower and middle school in Oakland, and one for upper school in Lafayette—Bentley School is a college preparatory school offering strong academics, vibrant arts, and competitive athletics programs.

3) Head-Royce School (Oakland): A coeducational K-12 school, Head-Royce is known for its commitment to academic excellence, experiential learning, and developing well-rounded students. The school offers a variety of clubs, sports, and extracurricular activities for students to explore their interests.

4) St. Mary's College High School (Berkeley): A Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory school, St. Mary's College High School provides a rigorous curriculum combined with opportunities for community service, moral and spiritual development, and extracurricular activities.

5) Bishop O'Dowd High School (Oakland): Bishop O'Dowd is a Catholic, coeducational college preparatory school that offers a strong academic program and an array of extracurricular opportunities, including a unique Center for Environmental Studies within its Living Lab, an on-campus wildlife habitat and garden area.

6) Athenian School (Danville): Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo, this day and boarding school focus on experiential learning and global citizenship, and provides opportunities for international travel, community service, and outdoor education.

As you consider these schools, I recommend visiting their websites, and if possible, arranging campus tours to get a feel for each school's culture and environment. You might also want to consider factors such as class size, tuition and financial aid offerings, and the availability of specific programs or extracurricular activities that you're interested in. Best of luck with your search!
