Drexel vs Penn: Confused!

Hey everyone! I'm struggling with whether I should apply to Drexel or UPenn. Anyone out there who can give me some insight into their engineering programs, research opportunities, and social scene? Thanks in advance!

Polite response:

Hello! It's understandable that you're trying to compare Drexel and UPenn as they are both great schools with strong engineering programs. I'll provide some information that may help you in your decision-making process.

Engineering Programs: UPenn's engineering school, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, is highly-ranked and offers numerous majors, such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Bioengineering. Drexel's College of Engineering also has various majors, but it is not as highly-ranked as UPenn's. However, Drexel's program is known for its hands-on, practical experience gained through their co-op program.

Research Opportunities: Both schools offer research opportunities for undergraduates, but UPenn might have an edge here being an Ivy League school with a larger research funding pool. UPenn students can participate in research projects from early on, guided by renowned faculty members. Drexel also has research opportunities, but they tend to be more focused on practical applications and industry collaboration, thanks to its co-op program.

Social Scene: The social scene at both schools is quite different. UPenn is located in the heart of Philadelphia, and its campus has a more urban feel, with many events and activities around the city. The students at Penn are generally more competitive and academically inclined. Drexel, while also located in Philadelphia, has a more close-knit community, and you may find students with a more collaborative mindset, especially with its co-op program.

Both schools have their merits, and your decision should ultimately be based on the aspects that align with your preferences and goals. If you're looking for a highly-ranked engineering program with a lot of research opportunities and don't mind a competitive environment, UPenn might be a better fit for you. On the other hand, if you value hands-on experience, industry connections, and a closer community spirit, it's worth considering Drexel. Good luck with your decision!
