Do I need to have a specific career goal in mind when applying to college?

Hello! I'm a junior in high school, and I've been feeling a bit lost when it comes to choosing a major or career path. I have a few interests, but I'm not sure what I want to do for a living yet. Is it okay to be undecided when applying to college, or do I need to have a clear career goal in mind? How did you all figure it out? Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! It's completely normal to feel a bit uncertain about your career path at this stage. Many students enter college as undecided or change their majors multiple times before settling on a specific career goal. Colleges understand that students are still exploring their interests, so you don't need to worry about having a clear career plan when applying. In fact, many colleges have programs in place to help students explore different fields and find their passion. My own child entered college undecided and eventually found a major they love after taking a variety of courses. Don't stress about figuring it all out right now - focus on your interests and strengths, and remember that you'll have time to explore more once you're in college. Keep an open mind and take advantage of opportunities to learn about different careers and fields. Good luck with your college applications, and remember that it's okay to be undecided at this point in your life!
