Should I submit an art portfolio with my college applications?

Hi, I'm a junior in high school, and I'm really passionate about art. I've been considering submitting an art portfolio with my college applications, even though I'm not planning on majoring in art. Would this be a good idea, or could it hurt my chances of admission? Thanks for any advice you can give!

Hello! It's great to hear that you're passionate about art. Including an art portfolio with your college applications can showcase your talents and provide a more well-rounded picture of who you are as a student. My own child submitted an art portfolio with their college applications, even though they didn't major in art, and it worked out well for them. However, make sure the colleges you're applying to allow supplemental materials and have a clear understanding of their guidelines. If you decide to submit an art portfolio, make sure it is well-presented and highlights your best work. Ultimately, it's up to you to decide if you want to include it, but showcasing your artistic abilities can only help demonstrate your unique skills and interests to the admissions committee. Best of luck with your college applications!
