Tulane deferral rate—should I be worried?

I've applied to Tulane and am a little stressed about the possibility of getting deferred. Can anyone share some info on Tulane's deferral rate? Also, how common is it for students to get accepted after being deferred?

It's natural to feel stressed about the college admissions process, but try not to let deferral rates be a primary source of concern. That being said, Tulane's deferral rate isn't publicly available, so it's difficult to provide a definitive number.

Regardless, it's important to remember that being deferred doesn't mean you're out of the running; rather, it means that the admissions committee wants to consider your application in the context of the regular decision applicant pool.

In terms of eventual acceptance after being deferred, this can vary from year to year and depends on factors such as the strength and size of the applicant pool, as well as the available spots in the incoming class. Generally, acceptances after deferrals aren't unheard of, but they might be less common than acceptances in the early decision/early action rounds.

If you do end up being deferred, there are some steps you can take to potentially increase your chances of being accepted during the regular decision round. These include:

1. Keeping your grades strong during your senior year, as colleges appreciate consistency and continued dedication to academics.

2. Submitting any relevant and significant updates to your application, such as awards, accomplishments, or leadership roles you've taken on since you submitted your application.

3. Writing a thoughtful letter of continued interest, expressing your enthusiasm for Tulane and providing reasons why you're a good fit for the institution.

Ultimately, try to keep a positive outlook, and remember that there are many variables in the admissions process. Focus on what you can control, such as maintaining a strong academic performance, and have backup options in case things don't go as planned with Tulane. Best of luck in your college journey!
