How much do standardized test scores matter?

Hi everyone! I'm a junior, and I'm starting to stress about my SAT and ACT scores. I've been hearing mixed opinions about how much these scores actually matter for college admissions. Can anyone give me some insight into how important standardized test scores are in the admissions process? Do I really need to aim for a near-perfect score to get into a good college? Thanks!

Hey there! I completely understand the stress that comes with standardized tests, as I went through the same thing with my child not too long ago. Standardized test scores, like the SAT and ACT, do play a significant role in college admissions, but they're not the only factor that colleges consider. Admissions officers typically look at a variety of factors, including your GPA, course rigor, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and personal essays, among other things. A good SAT or ACT score can definitely help boost your application, but it's not the only thing that matters.

Aiming for a near-perfect score isn't necessary to get into a good college, but having a score within the range of the colleges you're interested in applying to is important. If your test scores are lower than you'd like, don't worry too much, as you can always work on improving other aspects of your application, like your essays or extracurriculars. Additionally, there are many test-optional schools now that don't require SAT or ACT scores for admission. In summary, while standardized test scores do matter, they're not the end-all-be-all. Focus on building a well-rounded application and remember that there's more to you than just your test scores. Good luck!
