Do colleges prefer the SAT or ACT?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior, and I'm trying to decide whether to take the SAT or the ACT. I've heard that some colleges prefer one test over the other, but I'm not sure if that's true. Can anyone provide some insight on which test is generally more favored by colleges, if any? Thanks so much!

Hi! Great question. From my experience with my own child's college application process, I can tell you that most colleges in the United States accept both the SAT and the ACT, and they generally don't have a preference for one over the other. Instead, they focus on the strength of your application as a whole, including your GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation. So, it's really more about which test you feel more comfortable with and which one you think you can score higher on. I would recommend taking a practice test for both the SAT and the ACT to see which one suits you better. Once you have a better idea, you can focus on preparing for that specific test. Don't forget to also check the testing requirements for the colleges you're interested in, as some may require additional subject tests or have specific policies. Good luck with your testing and college applications!
