Are there any 'easier' med school options out there?

Hi everyone! So I'm really interested in going to med school in the future. I know it can be super competitive, and I'm feeling a little stressed about getting in. Does anyone know any easier med schools to get into, just so I can have a backup plan? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello! While it's understandable to be curious about "easier" med schools, it's essential to remember that medical school admissions are generally very competitive. That being said, there are some schools with slightly higher acceptance rates or lower average MCAT scores and GPAs among accepted students. Keep in mind that you should still do your best, as you’ll need to have a strong application to be a competitive applicant at any medical school.

However, medical schools with relatively higher acceptance rates and/or lower average stats include the following:

1. Central Michigan University College of Medicine

2. West Virginia University School of Medicine

3. University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine

4. East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine

Additionally, you could consider osteopathic medical schools (DO programs), which may have slightly higher acceptance rates compared to allopathic (MD) programs. Some DO programs to consider include:

1. Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine

2. AT Still University - Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

3. West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine

While these schools may have somewhat more attainable admission standards, it's crucial to research each school and ensure they align with your career goals and interests, as you don’t want to end up in an environment where you’re not going to be truly happy. So rather than agonizing too much over a particular school’s competitiveness, focus on building the strongest application you can, which should include a high GPA, competitive MCAT score, and meaningful extracurricular activities such as research, clinical experience, or volunteering.

Don't forget to also explore schools in your state, as public medical schools often prioritize accepting in-state applicants. Ultimately, your dedication to your passion for medicine and hard work in preparing for medical school will be essential in determining your success, regardless of where you apply. Good luck!
