Michigan State Admissions: How competitive?

So I'm looking at Michigan State as one of my options, but I'm not really sure how difficult it is to get in. How competitive is the admissions process?

Michigan State University (MSU) is considered moderately competitive when it comes to college admissions. The acceptance rate in 2023 was 87.9%, which shows that there is a relatively high chance of admission for many applicants. That being said, it's still important to present a strong application with solid credentials.

Typically, MSU accepted students have a high school GPA of around 3.5-4.0 on a 4.0 scale, though they also consider applicants with lower GPAs if they demonstrate strong potential in other aspects of their application. Standardized test scores, such as the ACT or SAT, used to be more influential in the application review process. However, MSU has adopted a test-optional policy, which means you are not required to submit your test scores (though you still can if you feel they will be advantageous to your application).

Apart from your academic performance, MSU also values your extracurricular activities and accomplishments. A good balance of involvement in clubs, sports, community service, or leadership positions will help showcase your well-roundedness and potential to contribute positively to the campus community.

In summary, Michigan State University isn't all that competitive, with a relatively accessible acceptance rate. That being said, you should still strive to maintain a strong GPA, demonstrate involvement in extracurricular activities, and craft a compelling personal statement that highlights your unique qualities and experiences.
