What is the average ACT score by grade level?

I'm interested in comparing my ACT performance to others in my grade level, but I'm having trouble finding a good source of information on this. Does anyone know where I can find the average ACT scores by grade level? Thanks for your help!

While it's challenging to find the average ACT scores by grade level, it's more typical to come across average score data by graduating class instead of by grade. Since students usually take the ACT starting in their sophomore year and continue until their senior year, there isn’t a firm distinction between grade levels when it comes to taking the test. Furthermore, the test content remains the same for all test-takers, without any adaptations for specific grade levels.

Here's a quick overview of recent average ACT scores by graduating class. Keep in mind that these numbers may fluctuate slightly each year:

- Graduating Class of 2023: 19.5

- Graduating Class of 2022: 19.8

- Graduating Class of 2021: 20.4

Instead of comparing your score to others in your grade, it's more useful to compare your performance to college admissions standards. Determine which colleges you're interested in and look up their ACT middle 50% ranges (25th percentile to 75th percentile) for admitted students. Aim to score within or above that range to improve your chances of admission.

Overall, focus on your own improvement and take the ACT multiple times if necessary. Utilize the abundant resources, such as practice tests and test-prep materials, to better prepare yourself and work towards your target score. Best of luck!
