Are extracurriculars necessary for college applications?

Hey fellow juniors! How important are extracurriculars when it comes to college applications? Do you really need them, or can I still be considered without them? Anyone with experience, please help!

If your academic record is very strong, it's possible that you could be considered at less selective schools, but you'd likely face difficulty at top-tier institutions.
