Colleges with cycling teams?

Hi everyone, I'm a junior in high school and have been into cycling for a while now. I'd love to attend a college with a cycling team so I can continue enjoying my hobby. Does anyone know of any colleges with solid cycling teams?

Hi there! It's great to see you're considering continuing your passion for cycling in college. Good news: there are many colleges across the United States with cycling teams, both at the club and varsity levels. Club teams can vary in competitiveness, with some even participating in races and events through organizations like USA Cycling's Collegiate Cycling program or the National Collegiate Cycling Association (NCCA). Varsity teams, on the other hand, are more competitive and operate at a higher level.

Here are a few colleges known for their strong cycling teams, both club and varsity:

1. Marian University (Varsity) - Known for its dominant varsity cycling program, Marian has won numerous national championships across several disciplines, including road, track, and cyclocross. Located in Indianapolis, Indiana, the college offers scholarships for its cycling athletes.

2. Lees-McRae College (Varsity) - This small liberal arts college in Banner Elk, North Carolina, is well-regarded for its varsity cycling program. They have a history of success in various cycling disciplines and offer cycling scholarships.

3. University of Colorado Boulder (Club) - The Buffs have a highly successful club cycling team, frequently ranking among the top collegiate teams in the country. Boulder itself is known for its cycling culture and extensive trail networks.

4. California Polytechnic State University (Club) - Cal Poly’s club cycling team competes in road, mountain, and cyclocross events. They have a history of strong performances at the national level.

5. Fort Lewis College (Varsity) - Located in Durango, Colorado, Fort Lewis College has a prestigious varsity cycling program that has won multiple national championships. They also offer cycling scholarships for their student-athletes.

6. University of California, Davis (Club) - UC Davis's club cycling team is known for its active, competitive nature. Its location in Northern California makes it ideal for accessing a wide variety of terrains and training routes.

These are just a few examples, but there are undoubtedly other cycling teams out there as well. As you continue your search, you might want to factor in things like the college's location, size, and academic offerings to find the best fit for you. Good luck, and happy pedaling!
