Can I submit my art portfolio even if I'm not majoring in art?

Hello everyone! I'm a junior and I'm passionate about art. I have a strong art portfolio, but I'm planning on majoring in something else. Can I still submit my art portfolio as part of my college application? Will it help or hurt my chances of getting accepted? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! It's great to hear that you're passionate about art and have a strong portfolio. In many cases, you absolutely can submit your art portfolio as part of your college application, even if you're not planning on majoring in art. Colleges often appreciate seeing a student's talents and interests outside of their intended major, as it can demonstrate a well-rounded and diverse individual. Additionally, your art portfolio can be a way to showcase your dedication, creativity, and skills in a unique and personal way.

To decide whether or not to submit your art portfolio, you should first research the specific colleges you're interested in applying to. Some colleges may have specific guidelines on supplementary materials, so it's essential to follow those accordingly. If the college allows supplementary materials and you feel that your art portfolio will strengthen your application, then go for it! Just make sure that the rest of your application is strong and highlights your other skills and accomplishments as well. Best of luck with your application process!
