Are Barnard College interviews required or optional?

Hi everyone, I'm applying to Barnard College and was wondering if interviews are required or just optional? If they're optional, would it be a disadvantage to not do one? Any recent applicants have experience with this? Thanks so much!

Hi there! At Barnard College, interviews are optional, not required. However, if you have the opportunity to participate in an interview, it's generally a good idea to do so. Interviews can help you stand out by providing additional context for your application and allowing both you and the school to assess fit. Participating in an interview can help demonstrate your interest in the college, and it's also a chance for you to ask questions and learn more about Barnard.

That being said, if you don't participate in an interview, it won't necessarily be a disadvantage, but you might miss out on an opportunity to showcase your personality and give the admissions committee a better sense of who you are outside of your application materials.

Recent applicants often find interviews helpful in expressing their enthusiasm for Barnard and connecting with current students or alumni who can share unique insights into the school's culture and community. So if you feel comfortable and confident in your ability to articulate your fit with and interest in Barnard during an interview, I'd recommend taking advantage of this opportunity!

Good luck with your application!
