Is a 960 on the PSAT a good score?

I just got my PSAT results and scored a 960. I'm not sure if this is a good score or not. Should I be concerned about it, or is it okay considering it's just the PSAT? Also, can this score affect my chances of getting into a good college?

A 960 on the PSAT is about an average score, but it's important to remember that the purpose of the PSAT is to help gauge your areas of strength and weakness as you prepare for the actual SAT. It serves as a practice test and thus has no direct impact on your college applications.

While the PSAT score itself won't impact your college admissions chances directly, it can be an indicator of how well you might perform on the actual SAT, which is indeed an important component of college applications. The good news is that you have time to improve your SAT score, and your PSAT results can show you which areas require more focus and practice. There are a variety of test prep resources available, such as Khan Academy and CollegeVine, to help you prepare for these tests.

As you prepare, it would also be helpful to know the average scores of students at your target colleges. You can typically find this information on the college's admissions website or by looking at college profiles on resources like CollegeVine. Keep in mind that a 960 on the PSAT will likely translate to an SAT score in the range of 980-1020, as the conversion is not exactly 1-to-1. If your score is already in a competitive range for the schools you're most interested in, or close to it, you probably won't need to do much studying. But if you're significantly below your target SAT score, you'll want to invest heavy time and energy into studying, perhaps even by enrolling in a prep course or hiring a tutor.

In summary, a 960 on the PSAT is a roughly average score, which you should use as a guide to help you prepare further for the real SAT, by identifying the areas that need improvement. Best of luck with your college process!
