Best schools with pre-vet programs?

Hi everyone, I'm currently a junior and am really interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. I've started looking into colleges and was curious if anyone knows which schools have great pre-vet programs? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It's awesome that you're interested in pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. While most colleges don't offer specific "pre-vet" programs, there are several schools known for their excellent animal science, agriculture, and biology programs that can prepare you well for vet school. Some of these schools have strong connections with veterinary schools, offer research and internship opportunities, and provide dedicated pre-vet advising. Here are a few schools to consider:

1. Cornell University — This Ivy League school has a renowned College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and is particularly known for its Animal Science program. They also have their own College of Veterinary Medicine, which is ranked among the best in the country.

2. University of California, Davis — UC Davis is another school with a strong College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and a top-ranked veterinary school.

3. Colorado State University — Their College of Agricultural Sciences offers various animal-related majors, and the university is home to a respected veterinary school as well.

4. Texas A&M University — With a comprehensive College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a veterinary school, Texas A&M is another solid option for pre-vet students.

5. University of Florida — Their College of Agricultural and Life Sciences has several animal science and pre-vet majors, and they also house a College of Veterinary Medicine.

When researching colleges, focus on schools with strong science departments and opportunities for research, internships, and hands-on experience, as these will be important when you apply to vet school. Remember that vet schools generally look for a strong foundation in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, so make sure the college you choose offers a solid curriculum in these areas. Good luck!
