Is it worth applying to colleges I don't think I can afford?

Hey guys! I'm a junior and I'm starting to create my college list. There are some colleges that I'm interested in, but I'm not sure if I can afford them. Is it worth applying to these schools, or should I focus on more affordable options? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It's great that you're thinking ahead and considering the financial aspect of your college education. When it comes to applying to colleges that you think might be out of your price range, I would still encourage you to apply. The reason behind this is that many schools offer financial aid packages, scholarships, and grants that can significantly reduce the cost of attendance. You might be pleasantly surprised by the aid you receive from a particular school! Additionally, some institutions have a 'meet 100% demonstrated need' policy, meaning they will work with you to make sure the cost of attendance is manageable for your family's financial situation. Lastly, don't forget about external scholarships that you can apply for independently. These can also help ease the financial burden of attending a more expensive college. In the end, it doesn't hurt to apply and explore all your options. You never know what opportunities might come your way. Best of luck with your college search and applications!
