Application process for UC schools?

I'm a junior and I'm starting to think about applying to UC schools like UCLA and UC Berkeley. Can anyone give me a brief overview of the application process, including deadlines and important things to keep in mind? I really appreciate the help!

The University of California (UC) system, which includes schools like UCLA and UC Berkeley, has a unique application process. Here's a brief overview to help you get started:

1. Application platform: UC schools use their own application platform, the UC Application, available at https://apply.universityofcalifornia.edu/. You will complete one application for all the UC schools you're applying to, so you only need to submit your information once.

2. Application opening: The application period opens every year on August 1, so you'll be able to create your account and start working on the application after this date.

3. Application deadline: The application submission deadline is November 30. Make sure you submit your application by that date! There is no Early Decision (ED) or Early Action (EA) for any of the UC schools.

4. Personal Insight Questions: The UC Application requires you to answer four out of eight Personal Insight Questions, each with a maximum of 350 words. Make sure to review these questions early on, so you have enough time to plan and develop your answers. Remember to highlight your unique experiences and personal growth, as these essays help the admissions officers get to know you better.

5. Test-blind: UC schools are test-blind, which means they do not review standardized test scores, like the SAT or ACT, at all. You should not worry about submitting your scores for admission purposes.

6. Academic requirements: UC schools have a set of "a-g" course requirements that you must fulfill in high school to be considered for admission. Make sure you are meeting these requirements, including courses in English, math, social science, laboratory science, foreign language, visual and performing arts, and college-preparatory electives.

7. Extracurricular activities: In the application, you'll have space to list and describe up to 20 extracurricular activities. Make sure to include a mix of your most significant achievements, experiences, and interests. Remember to emphasize your leadership roles, accomplishments, and the impact these activities have had on you.

8. Letters of recommendation: UC schools generally do not require letters of recommendation. However, some programs and majors may request them as a supplement to your application. Be sure to check the specific requirements for your intended major.

9. Financial aid: To apply for financial aid, you will need to submit the FAFSA, available on October 1, and the Cal Grant GPA Verification Form. California residents should also complete the California Dream Act Application if they're not eligible for federal aid. Check each school's financial aid website for deadlines and specific requirements.

Remember to regularly check each school's website for specific updates and requirements, as they may change year-to-year. Good luck and happy applying!
