Does early action mean commitment?

Hey all! I'm considering applying early action to a college, but I'm not 100% sure I want to go there. Does applying for early action mean I have to commit if I get accepted or is it non-binding?

Hello! Early Action (EA) is non-binding, which means if you are accepted to the college, you do not have to commit to attend. You will have until the standard decision deadline, typically May 1st, to decide whether or not you want to enroll. This is unlike Early Decision (ED), which is binding, and if you are accepted, you are expected to commit to attending that school.

Applying Early Action can provide several benefits, such as receiving an admissions decision earlier and demonstrating your interest in the college. However, keep in mind that applying EA does not have as significant an impact on your chances of being accepted as applying ED, which often comes with higher acceptance rates.

Feel free to apply Early Action to a college if you're not 100% sure it's your top choice – you'll still have plenty of time and options when decisions come in from other schools. Good luck with your applications!
